VOODOO FEST: "PAPER AIRPLANE" INTERACTIVE INSTALLATION - On December 30, 1910, City Park was temporarily converted into an airfield. John Bevins Moisant (designed, built, and flew the first metal aircraft) raced his Bleriot monoplane five miles against a Packard automobile, but lost. Moisant died on December 31, 1910 in Kenner, Louisiana in an air crash. The international airport of New Orleans was originally a stock yard named "Moisant Stock Yard" in his honor, though it has since been renamed Louis Armstrong International. To this day we still use "MSY" as our airport code.
